Kruger was married to James Davies, a British man, for six years, from 2002 until 2008.
She began seeing her current companion, Craig McPherson, executive producer of Today Tonight after her marriage dissolved in September 2008. McPherson and she had been trying to have a child for years, using both IVF and natural techniques. She became pregnant multiple times, but each time she miscarried. She announced her pregnancy in August 2014, having conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Kruger gave birth to her daughter Maggie in 2015.

Kruger debuted on the 7Network reality dance competition series “Dancing with the Stars” in 2004, the Australian equivalent of the BBC television series “Strictly Come Dancing”. For all of her eleven seasons course on the show, she co-hosted it with Daryl Somers and Daniel MacPherson. Kruger was confirmed to anchor the Seven Network makeover reality show 10 Years Younger in 10 Days in September 2008.

She planned in November 2011 that she was leaving both Dancings with the Stars and the Seven Network to pursue other possibilities. Kruger later negotiated a development contract with the Nine Network in November 2011. She was confirmed to co-host her own daytime chat show, Mornings, with singer and actor David Campbell. The show was created to take on the role of Kerri-Anne, which ended the same month. The show premiered on February 6, 2012. Kruger was revealed as a presenter on the Nine Network’s new travel series, Helloworld, which premiered on October 7, 2018. Kruger hosted The Voice again in 2021 when Seven Network acquired the property after Nine Network failed to renew its deal with the show.

She is most known for her performance as Tina Sparkle in the dark 1992 film Strictly Ballroom and for co-hosting the famous Australian version of Dancing with the Stars.
Kruger has also covered a variety of other events for the Seven Network, including coverage of the Olympics, the Melbourne Cup, and the Australian Open. She received the Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television in 2023.
