Danny Devito is an Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globe Award-winning American film producer, director, and actor. His prominence came from his portrayal of the taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma in the television series Taxi from 1978 to 1983. This won him a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award. Currently, he plays Frank Reynolds on the FXX sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He is also one of the producers nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture for Erin Brockovich in 2000. In 2017, he earned a Tony Award nomination after performing “The Price.”

His first roles in professional acting were in the Off-Broadway play The Man with the Flower in His Mouth in 1969 and the film Dreams of Glass in 1970. Then his first movie appearance was in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975. The comedy series Taxi gave him his breakthrough and effectively launched his career. He starred in several films, including the buddy film Twins, the dark comedy Ruthless People, the romantic adventure Romancing the Stone, and the family drama Terms of Endearment. In 1989, he branched out to directing films such as the satirical comedy The War of the Roses, the dark comedy Throw Momma from the Train, and the crime biopic Hoffa.

Devito, together with Perlman and American producer Michael Shamberg, cofounded the production company Jersey Films. The company produced films such as the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon, Matilda, and the coming-of-age film Garden State. Three decades later after the Taxi, Danny featured in the comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In animated films and television shows, he has taken roles such as the voice of the Devil in the animated sitcom Little Demon and the voice of the title role in the animated Dr. Seuss comedy The Lorax. For the role of Best Actor in a television series in 1980, he won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Comedy in 1981 in his work on Taxi.
