Sharyn’s career in journalism started in the region, as a reporter and presenter for North Queensland Television, which is now 10 QLD. Additionally, she produced and presented the regional weekly current affairs program, Newsweek. Later, she moved to Brisbane to work with Network Ten’s news division before going to the Nine Network. During her first three years at the Nine Network, her work entailed reporting for National Nine News and writing and presenting hourly news breaks. Ghidella began hosting Nine’s Daybreak program, which was later renamed National Nine Early News. This was in the mid-90s. In 2000, she took over from Peter Overton as anchor of the National Nine Morning News; however, she later switched to Mark Ferguson, who took over at 6 a.m. When Ross left the show in 2001, she became a permanent news presenter and continued as a fill-in host.

Leila McKinnon replaced Ghidella on Today; this was in February 2005. Ghidella again went to co-host National Nine Early News alongside Chris Smith and weather presenter Majella Wiemers, which lasted until June 2005. Unfortunately, some sources claimed that she left Today and the Nine Network on December 1, 2006. Later, she joined Seven News Brisbane as a weekend presenter and replaced Tracey Challenor. Additionally, she replaced Talitha Cummins on Weekend Sunrise as a news presenter and remained in the position until late 2010. In 2013, Sharyn began presenting Seven News Brisbane from Sunday to Thursday and was also appointed presenter of Today Tonight Queensland.
