Novick worked as a research assistant at the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution before starting her film career. and later started her work as a production assistant at Manhattan’s WNET public television station. She then worked on Bill Moyers’ projects Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth and A World of Ideas before transferring to Florentine Films in 1989 to work as an associate producer for post-production on Burns’ 1990 series The Civil War. Lynn earned an Emmy Award in 1994 for producing Baseball, a nine-part series by Burn. She later went on to create and produce a two-part biographical documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright (with Burns), for which she won a Peabody Award in 1998.
In 2001, she produced Burns’ ten-part jazz television series. Her most recent projects with Burns and Geoffrey Ward were Prohibition (2012), The War (2007), and Baseball: The Tenth Inning (2010). (2011). The Vietnam War, an 18-hour documentary television series produced by her and Burns, was broadcast in September 2017. Her four-part PBS series, College Behind Bars, was shown in 2019. Burns and Lynn co-produced and co-directed a three-part, six-hour documentary that served as a recapitulation of Ernest Hemingway’s life, work, and love and made its public broadcasting system debut on April 5, 2021. Lynn’s appointment as a creative advisor at Meadowlark Media was announced in April 2021.
