On April 13, 2021, DAZN made the announcement that Garcia would defend his recently obtained WBC interim lightweight championship. Devin Haney, a former WBA (Regular) super featherweight champion from the Dominican Republic. Garcia, however, revealed on April 24 that he has dropped out of the fight in order to “manage his health and well-being”.
