Romesh started his career as a mathematics teacher at both Hazelwick School and The Beacon School in Banstead. Also, he engaged in freestyle rap under the stage name Ranga and reached the finals of the UK freestyle competition. All this he did before becoming a comedian. In 2014, he started presenting Newsjack on Radio 4 Extra. He also appeared on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, where he presented his homemade vegan chocolate brownies. From then on, his career path has continued to rise owing to his many appearances as a presenter. They include 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, It’s Not Rocket Science, where he co-hosted with Rachel Riley and Ben Miller. The Last Leg, Virtually Famous, Would I Lie to You?, Russell Howard’s Good News, Sweat the Small Stuff, Holby City, Soccer AM, Have I Got News for You, QI, and Mock the Week. He contested the first series of Taskmaster and appeared in the third episode of Jon Richardson Grows Up. In 2015, he performed at the Royal Variety Performance.

Later that year, he presented the BBC Three series Asian Provocateur and traveled to Sri Lanka to explore his heritage. In 2018, he joined Season 13 of A League of Their Own, where he went on to star in his ten-episode docu-comedy named Just Another Immigrant, which premiered on Showtime on June 8. The same year he published an autobiography, called Straight Outta Crawley. For The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, he won the Bafta TV Award for Best Features in 2020. Again, he won the Bafta TV Award for Best Entertainment Performance for The Ranganation. He began hosting the revival of The Weakest Link, where he replaced Anne Robinson. Currently, he hosts a weekly radio show called For The Love of Hip-Hop on BBC Radio 2. It has won an Audio and Radio Industry Award for Best Specialist Music Show; this was in 2023.
