Shanti Das is an American author, marketing consultant, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and iconic music industry executive. At  Universal Motown Records, she serves as the Executive Vice President of Urban Marketing and Artist Development. She has managed the marketing campaigns for artists such as Akon, Erykah Badu, and Ashanti. Das serves on several committees and boards of organizations.

Shanti Das Education

Shanti attended  Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in Atlanta and graduated in 1989. Then joined Syracuse University, where she majored in Television, Radio, and Film at the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications. Her first job was at Capitol Records, where she worked as an urban promotions assistant. This was in the summers of 1991 and 1992. Next, she worked briefly as an intern at Sony Music Atlanta and later graduated from Syracuse in 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in communications.

Immediately after college, she landed a job with LaFace Records as its National Director of Promotions. She worked with label founders Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Antonio “LA” Reid. Also, she did several artist tours like Usher’s 1994 and 1995 tours, TLC’s “CrazySexyCool” tours in 1995 and 1996, and Braxton’s first major U.S. concert tour in 1993. In 1996, Shanti was promoted to the marketing department, still at LaFace Records. Her work entailed planning and coordinating campaigns for artists Outkast, Donell Jones, Goodie Mob, and Toni Braxton. Das received the “National Promotion Director of the Year” award from  Impact Magazine at its Summer XII Conference in 1997. The following year, Impact magazine named her “Music Executive of the Year.” LaFace Records was sold to BMG in 2000, which made Das move to New York and take on the role of Senior. Director of Urban Marketing at Arista Records.

Outkast performed a free concert at Club Kaya in honor of Shanti before leaving Atlanta. On June 5, 2000, she was officially named “Shanti Das Day and was awarded a “Key to the City of Atlanta.” Again, Das left Arista in 2001 and became Vice President of Urban Marketing at Columbia Records. Her role was to market high-profile projects for So So Def Records, Jagged Edge, Bow Wow, and Jermaine Dupri. She became Sr.  Later in 2005, Shanti joined Universal Motown Records as Executive Vice President of Urban Marketing and Artist Development.  She became co-president of 1st Class Entertainment and co-founder of R&B Live New York from 2007 to 2009. Shanti left  Universal Motown in 2009 and launched the company PressReset.me. Currently, she is a co-founder of the live music showcase, ATL LIVE on the Park. This is a southern version of Das’ R&B Live showcase. At  Crain Communications, she was named “40 Under 40” in 2009.

Having been moved by the plight of those who could not afford to bury their loved ones, she created “May We Rest in Peace,” a nonprofit organization to help bury bodies stacking up at Detroit’s Wayne County Morgue. The book  “The Hip-Hop Professional: A Woman’s Guide to Climbing the Ladder of Success in the Entertainment Business,” showcases her 20-year career in the music industry. Das wrote and published the book in August 2010. Consequently, she serves on several boards and committees of organizations, including as an advisory board member at the F.S.I.
